Visions about the BRICS Electricity Alliance
The BRICS Electricity Alliance envisions an energy-powered future, with China and Russia uniting to reshape global power, drive AI advances, and support developing nations beyond dollar dominance.
With the rapid development of AI, especially the global AI boom triggered by the emergence of DeepSeek, electric energy has become a new hot spot that various countries are competing to develop.
After all, whether it is the calculation or operation of artificial intelligence, strong electricity is required. Without strong electricity, no matter how powerful the AI is, it will be just empty talk.
In this electricity race, China seems to be ahead of the world once again.
The Financial Times exclaimed, "China is poised to become the first 'electric kingdom' in human history, transforming from a fossil fuel-dependent nation to one driven by electricity." By 2024, China's electricity generation is expected to exceed 10 trillion kilowatt-hours, equivalent to 2.5 times that of the United States and 5 times that of India.
The Australian Broadcasting Corporation also found that China's solar power generation installed capacity (45.2GW) in April 2025 alone exceeded Australia's total installed capacity. In May, it doubled again to 93GW! In the first half of 2025, China's newly installed power generation capacity reached 290GW, far exceeding Germany's total installed capacity (263.4GW).
These reports reflect the fact that China's electricity supply has reached an astonishing and incredible high level.
We can fully speculate that it is impossible for China to use all of this electricity by itself, so a considerable portion of it will need to be exported. This leads to the concept of the "BRICS Electricity Alliance", that is, we can form an electricity alliance with China and Russia as the core under the BRICS framework. The alliance aims to provide strong electricity support for BRICS countries.
China is the only green energy provider in this alliance. Russia, another core member, is a major supplier of fossil fuels, but its fossil fuels can also be used to generate electricity.
Russia only needs to refine oil into fuel and then use the fuel to generate electricity, and it can also become an electric power country.
In other words, through its powerful green energy strategy, China has transformed itself from an energy importer to an energy exporter comparable to Russia, Saudi Arabia, and other countries. More importantly, China, as an emerging electricity exporter, does not use the US dollar for settlement, but uses the RMB, or possibly the BRICS currency in the future.
China's strong rise and the formation of the BRICS Electricity Alliance will undoubtedly completely change and overturn the dollar-dominated oil hegemony.
The BRICS Electricity Alliance will perfectly connect China's energy output with the electricity needs of southern countries. We all know that the BRICS countries have the idea of a BRICS AI Alliance, so the idea of the BRICS AI Alliance is bound to be inseparable from the support of the BRICS Electricity Alliance.
In fact, the BRICS Electricity Alliance should become the foundation and core of the BRICS AI Alliance, and should not use the US dollar, a severely devalued currency, for electricity settlement.
Russia also needs to participate in the formation of the BRICS Electricity Alliance, as Europe and the United States have been suppressing Russian oil exports, which has put tremendous pressure on the Russian economy. If Russia can shift its oil exports to electricity exports, it will be able to escape the continued pressure from Europe and the United States on oil prices.
Russia's joining the BRICS Electricity Alliance is very necessary for Russia to grasp the future electricity market and strengthen cooperation with China, a new type of electricity exporter. China and Russia can sign the "China-Russia Electricity Cooperation Agreement" to jointly plan the future market share of BRICS electricity exports and avoid vicious competition between China and Russia.
The BRICS Electricity Alliance isn't just an organization for China and Russia to export electricity to southern countries. It's more of a cooperative framework, connecting electricity between exporting countries.
For example, when China needs a large amount of electricity, the alliance can supply it. When Russia needs a large amount of electricity, the alliance can allocate electricity to Russia.
It's not an organization for China and Russia to dump electricity on southern countries, but rather a cooperative organization for China and Russia to provide electricity to southern countries and help them develop their manufacturing industries.
In the future, if other BRICS countries have their own electricity export capabilities, they can also join the organization's export plan and export electricity to other countries, truly achieving the goal of "everyone for me, and I for everyone".
Of course, the BRICS Electricity Alliance still needs more consultation and discussion on market and pricing, and it still has a long way to go. But it is definitely a promising cooperation framework that is worth all of our efforts.
Unlike the United States, which excludes China, Russia, and other countries, the BRICS Electricity Alliance does not exclude the United States and Europe. If the United States and Europe are willing to provide electricity to southern countries under the BRICS cooperation framework, the BRICS Electricity Alliance welcomes the participation of the United States and the European Union.
Although the United States regards the BRICS as an adversary, the BRICS never regard the United States as an enemy.
